Hundreds of candidates wishing to sit for Monday’sUnified Tertiary Matriculation Examination escaped death in Jos after they were fired at by policemen called to maintain law and order. This happened on Wednesday after they went berserk following the inability of the authorities to release examination slips to them. The candidates had gathered at the Murtala Mohammed Way office of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board following announcements that they should come for the details of their examination centres. However, the authorities were overwhelmed by the sheer number of students who had converged on the office. The candidates were said to have become restive when the staff of JAMB were very slow in releasing the slips to them. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has said that 1,475,477 candidates will sit for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations scheduled for between March 10 and 21. Among the candidates are 208 prison inmates and 192 visually impaired candidates. The prison inmates are from Kaduna and Ikoyi prisons

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has confirmed that 1,475,477 candidates will sit this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations, scheduled for between Tuesday, March 10, and Saturday, March 21, across 400 centers in the country and seven foreign countries. The 2015 UTME, JAMB said, marks the commencement of full-blown Computer Based Test, in which 208 prison inmates, drawn from Kaduna and Ikoyi prisons, and 192 visually impaired candidates will participate. The seven foreign countries, where the examination will take place are Ghana, Cameroon, Republic of Benin, London, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Ethiopia.
